September 23, 2024 THE HOPEFULLY NOT SO BORING ADVENTURES OF ELDER WILLIAMSON CHAPTER CI
last sunday we went to church normal, at 8:30 in the morning, expecting sacrament meeting to start as usual at 9.. but we went upstairs to start the meeting, bishop gets up to the pulpit and is like "i really love christmas, so we're gonna have a christmas activity".. so they made hot chocolate and had bread and had a "christmas activity" to replace the first hour of church.. then for the second hour we had sacrament meeting..
we however diD completely skip second hour classes, and no one knew ig (especially not us) so everyone who had second hour clases planned was kinda annoyed.. annnd idk it was just kinda a mess, cuz the other elders had 4 friends come for the first time, and that was the first impression of the church that they got..
that we just show up at 9 and listen to christmas music and have bread and hot chocolate, and we just sit around talking.. and there's nothing bad about that stuff, but it shouldn't be during church.. i have no idea why we did that..
on monday we were stuck in the house for most of the day cuz we didn't have a key to the church (my comp broke ours at some point, and the other elders have one, but they had to go to the argentina consulate) so we just sat around with no power in our house until they came back.. hopefully we'll be doing something more fun this week..
tuesday we had district council and i gave a training, which will be the last of the mission.. hopefully.. and then the hermanas made tacos cuz ig mexicos birthday or somethings..
we were trying really hard to get our friend estephany interviewed for baptism this week, like we went with our dl on sunday and on monday too, but it didn't work out.. so we went again on wednesday, and he finally got to do the interview.. and then she had to do another interview with a councilor of our mission pres, so we did that the next day..
and despite all odds, everything worked out.. we somehow got all of the teachings in as well, and now we're planning the baptism for sunday, so hopefully everything goes to plan..
on friday morning we went to a school to teach english class to our recent convert rosalina, who is a teacher at a bilingual school.. the school was sUper nice and not at all what i was expecting.. like a pool, AC, a billion rooms, and it just looked really nice all of it.. it was kinda like that one childrens place museum that's in salt lake, like it felt very similar.. but that was really fun, and i even got a free muffin..
and then sunday came.. we had the primary program, so that was fun to watch.. and then the baptism of estephany..
the most stressful baptism i've ever participated in by farrr.. so basically we don't have a baptismal font right? everyone knows that.. so we have to go somewhere else.. ohhh the hermanas that are like 6 min away are having a baptism at the same time? let's just combine them.. ohhh the don't want to? that's chill, we'll just go to the zl area to do it..
so everything was planned and ready to go.. the schedule, the speakers, the zls were gonna fill up the font, there's gonna be a guagua to show up at our chapel to bring people including estephany.. and then.. reality set in.. the member who was gonna take us in the guagua got sick and went to the hospital.. he didn't tell us, so we had to call him to find that out..
that's chill tho, cuz there's the first councilor in the bishopric to take us, so we get on our way to the zl chapel, a little late, but all is well, no one will even notice, we are in fact in the DR.. until i get a call from the zls saying that they had forgoten to fill up the font.. but we were already almost there, so we show up anyways..
and there's the rest of the members and the zls who are like "yahhh the water that's in there isn't draining, and it's not filling up either" and the one foot of water that wAs in there was super gross, like it smelled really bad..
so i call the hermanas to be like "hey, so ik you already said you don't wanna do a combined baptism, but we kinda need to at this point" but they ignored us, so we got our boy berry the dl to call them and talk to them about it.. so anyways after like 2847 other calls and considering just driving to the ocean (cuz we had then found out that in the sisters chapel the water wasn't filling up either, and there was only about a foot and a half at mOst, and it was draining..
but we ended up going over there anyways, and then we have a "combined" baptism, that was actually just all their baptism, but we were also there.. like super awkward in the talks and stuff cuz they were directed at niños (cuz yk.. hermanas) and it was a little weird since estephany is probably like 45 and has 3 kids..
but it was fine.. and then the actual ordinance of the baptism was a little difficult.. they all had to sit down in the font, and lay down completely on the floor to go all the way under the water.. and it maybe took a couple tries, but my comp managed to get her under..
sooo it all worked out in the end.. and even tho it seemed like everything was falling apart, and then we would put it back together again and then it would fall apart worse.. Heavenly Father had a different vision than the one i had.. luckily i was able to see the reasons for each thing that happened along the way and submit to his will.. cuz i was definitely doing a lot of pacing and wondering how it was all gonna work out.. and just like always.. in the end, it all worked out..
that's the week, love you guys, have a great week!
2 nephi 2:11
For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my firstborn in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility.
