July 22, 2024 THE HOPEFULLY NOT SO BORING ADVENTURES OF ELDER WILLIAMSON CHAPTER LXXXXII
welcome all..
not toooo much to report.. other than some interesting experiences for my comp.. on sunday last week we had a call with the mission on zoom, and they were having all the new people say where they are from and all that, and my comp did his in creole, because he was called to this mission creole speaking..
and then we got a message from president saying not to speak in creole unless asked specifically to do so.. which i thought that was the point of the mission call.. was to specifically speak in creole.. buttt apparently not.. so my comp kinda got of to a bad start with pres ig, like he already doesn't like him.. annnd then on tuesday my comp got sick..
we had district council, and then afterwards the other elders in our house were about to go on an exchange.. so they were gonna go to the mall that's 5 min from our house to eat, cuz it's easier than trying to be in a different house on an exchange, and getting food and all that.. and normally in our house we eat together the 4 of us, sooo we just went with them..
the mall has a couple stores in there, but it's mostly just banks and a food court.. we only go there to pull money out of the ATM and to get food..
so we got food from this chineese place that was super mid.. mine was sesame chicken and rice.. but my comp got shrimp with rice.. annnd that's pOsssible what got him sick, we're not sure cuz another elder got the same thing and he was totally fine.. (my comp also ate some sus ham at home, and he thinks it was that).. but anyways, around 6:30 my comp starts feeling pain in his stomach..
and he says we should probably go home, so we get back, and he starts rithing and squirming around in pain, and says he needs to go to the hospital.. sooo i text hermana hernandez (pres wife) and tell her the situation, and what she thinks we should do.. annnd she doesn't respond..
but in the mean time my comp throws up a couple times, and starts to feel better.. anyways 2 hours pass, and finally hermana hernandez responds in text, and then calls us.. she asks my comp how he's doing, and then asked who had given him shrimp (i had told her it might have been that) so i told her that it had been from a restaurant.. so she asked which restaurant.. and i was like "uhhh it's called terriaki? it's in the mall in our area" and she's like "why we're you in the mall?" and i was like "uhhhh" confused by the question.. "don't lie to me elderes" in a clearly very angry voice.. "uhh the other elders had an exchange, so we went to eat"..
"and who gave you permission to go and do that?" i'm super confused at this point "uhhh it's in our area".. "elderes you know better than this, this is what happens when we are disobedient, especially you elder williamson, this will be a lesson for you".. and at this point i'm just so lost.. cuzzz there aren't any rules that say we can't eat at restaurants.. or at least i thOught there weren't any..
buttt i wanted to check the rule book again just in case there was anything i had missed there.. sooo for the next 2 hours (we were stuck at home and i had nothing else better to do anyways) i read every single rule in the rule book, and even the "frequently asked questions" page we have as a mission, that has some of the extra rules that our president has put into place..
annnnd low and behold.. it says nothing about not going to restaurants or not going to malls outside of pday, in fact it list that as one of our expenses in the rule book "occasional fast food".. so then i was just left even more confused.. so the next day we texted her again and asked her if she could clarify if there was some rule against that..
sooo she just says "please ask pres about this question" so i ask pres, and then i remember the new rule that was put into place a couple weeks ago that said that we weren't allowed to eat as a district after district council, to avoid wasting time.. sooo i thought maybe she assumed we ate as a district (we didn't by the way, we used to do that, but we stopped as soon as they put the rule there)..
but anyways, i asked president, and clarified that the place is in our area, it only takes like 5 min to walk there, we were back before lunch time was over, and we didn't go as a district.. annnd he responded and said that directly after district council we are supposed to go directly back to our areas to proselite.. which idek what he means by that, because district council goes from 10:30-12 (the time that he set) and lunch starts also at 12.. and he also said that we're only supposed to go to malls on pdays..
soooo anyways, i certainly didn't know that, cuz it's not anywhere in the rules.. i've never been told that by anyone.. in fact quite the opposite, i think almost every missionary i've ever talked to in this mission has been to a mall not on a pday (almost always to eat).. and in this area we have done it a lot..
sooo ig now we know, no malls except pday, which is fine, i don't really care.. buttt the person that dOes care a lot about it is my comp.. not the mall thing, but the relationship he already his with his mission leaders.. sooo i don't really know how to fix that, cuz the point of asking pres to clarify it was to be like "hey we didn't do anything wrong, at least not on purpose, there's no reason to be pissed at us for being disobedient"..
iii don't think it worked tho.. which doesn't matter so much to me, they can think what they want, but it's not looking so good for my comp.. the problem tho, is idk how to fix that kinda thing, cuz hermana hernandez just doesn't trust the missionaries for some reason..
anyways tho, pray for my comp, cuz he probably has parasites at this point, and he's not having the best time adapting to the culture and the mission leadership here..
we also have been working a lot, just trying to work better with the members and teaching their friends and family members..
that's pretty much the week tho, have a great week, love you guys!
alma 31:5
And now, as the preaching of the word had a great tendency to lead the people to do that which was just—yea, it had had more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else, which had happened unto them—therefore Alma thought it was expedient that they should try the virtue of the word of God.
